The Diamond Jubilee Award giving ceremony organized by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ at the Madonna Renewal Centre, Nkpor was a huge success. In spite of the wind storm which threatened to disrupt the ceremony in the morning, the Awardees with their friends and well wishers, turn-up en-masse to grace the occasion. The ceremony started with a Holy Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Theophilus Odukwe and assisted by 12 other priest, in the Madonna Chapel.
The homily was preached by Very Rev. Msgr. Hypolite Adigwe. According to him, the Congregation of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ is a miracle which God gave to Nigeria and to the world. The celebration of the Diamond Jubilee therefore, is a celebration of glory in various aspects of the life of the Sisters and their apostolates in Nigeria and in all the eleven countries of the world where they are working. In missionary work, the Congregation ranks among the leading ones. He urged the Sisters to keep the flag flying and never give up. Addressing the Awardees and their friends, Msgr. Adigwe thanked the relentless support they have given to the Congregation and for identifying themselves with the Congregation on various capacities. He urged them to do all in their power to ensure that the work of the Congregation goes on.
After the Mass, there was the planting of the Diamond Jubilee Tree by Very Rev. Fr. Theophilius Odukwe, assisted by Very Msgr. Hypolite Adigwe. There was also the unveiling of the Statue of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Jubilee Garden by Mrs. Stella Odimegwu, an Old Girl of the Charles Heerey Memorial Juniorate. From there, all moved on to the unveiling of the Diamond Jubilee Project.
The Award giving ceremony took off immediately after that at the Madonna Hall. There were 67 Awardees.
A Gala night Party was organized by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ for the 3 Sisters celebrating their Golden Jubilee and for the 23 Sisters others celebrating their Silver Jubilee.
The evening began with the solemn Vespers prayed by all in the Chapel of Madonna Renewal Centre. Each of the Sisters received a special gift from the Superior General, Mother Mary Claude Oguh, for her unique contribution to the growth of the Congregation. There were dances and other entertainments from the Cor Marie Girls’ Secondary School, Nkpor.
